Echoes of the Civil War:
Capturing Battlefields through a Pinhole Camera

Starting in 2011, photographer Michael Falco began a four year journey to explore what remains of Americaʼs Civil War landscape. Following the timeline of conflict Falco visited the warʼs famous battlefields and became a re-enactor to embed with the scores of Americans who embrace this history and celebrate their DNA ties to this period.

In 2012, the work was recognized by the United States Library of Congress and is now a part of the National Archive. In 2016, WW Norton and Company published, Echoes of the Civil War: Capturing Battlefields Through A Pinhole Camera. The book chronicles Falcoʼs journey with 35,000 words and 176 color photographs.
