Afternoon sun illuminates the Valley of Death seen from Little Round Top on the Battlefield at Gettysburg. On July 2, 1863, this valley was filled with thousands of dead and wounded as Confederate forces attacked Union positions at Gettysburg.

ABOUT THE SERIES

Starting in 2011 photographer Michael Falco began a four-year journey to explore what remains fo America’s Civil War Landscape. Following the timeline of the conflict Falco visited the war’s famous battlefields and became a re-enactor to embed with the scores of Americans who embrace this history and continue to celebrate their DNA ties to this seminal period in the country’s history.
